Comprehensive Advanced Life Support (CALS) Rural Emergency Medical Education

Join CALS Training in Anchorage, from May 3-5, held at 1901 Bragaw St, Suite 250, Anchorage, AK 99508 (UAA’s Bragaw Building, Second Floor).

This course consists of interactive sessions in cardiac, traumatic, pediatric, obstetrical, neonatal and medical advanced life support. Course materials establish the CALS Universal Approach to critically ill or injured patients, which defines the manner by which care providers evaluate and treat emergency patients.

The CALS Course was designed to provide physicians, registered nurses, physician assistants, nurse practitioners and paramedics with the opportunity to learn and practice infrequently used lifesaving skills. Participants are encouraged to attend in teams, and courses are limited to 24 participants per session.

  • Traction splint
  • Bleeding Control including wound packing and tourniquet application
  • FAST Exam

CALS Course Objectives:

  • Demonstrate the ability to problem solve in a variety of clinical situations. Identify key threats and demonstrate therapeutic interventions.
  • Discuss the roles of each team member involved in patient evaluation and treatment.
  • Perform skills consistent with the provider’s role on the advanced life support team.

Continuing Education: Application for CME credit has been filed with the American Academy of Family Physicians. Determination of credit is pending.
