Notice of Proposed Amendments to AaNA Bylaws

At the AaNA General Assembly scheduled on Friday, October 17, 2025 at 1:45 PM, members in attendance will vote on proposed amendments to our bylaws.

The proposed amendments would:

  • Add as a core purpose of AaNA to empower nurses to collectively organize in their workplaces.
  • Clarify language related to the professional association dues applicable to union members and union retirees.
  • Require committee chairs to submit an annual resolution outlining the goals and objectives of their committee for the coming year.

  • Reduce the minimum number of required committee members from three to two.
  • Remove language regarding evaluation of paid committee chairs (with a plan to incorporate the language into policy instead).
  • Rename the Nominations Committee to the Elections Committee and eliminate language stating that members serve for two-year terms.
  • Add under Labor Council Composition the ability for the immediate past chair to attend meetings in an advisory capacity with voice but without vote for a period of two years.
  • Clarify language related to vacancies of bargaining unit representatives to the Labor Council.
  • Clarify language related to the forwarding of professional association dues from the Labor Program to the Board of Directors.
  • Add language stating in the case of discrepancies with other bylaws sections, Article VII (Labor Council) will prevail.
