Raising Awareness of PANDAS/PANS
Presented by Sarah Lemley & Kym McCornack

Join us at Tuesday Talks this month as we learn about PANDAS and PANS post-infectious neuroinflammatory disorders affecting as many as 1 in 200 children.
An abrupt onset of psychiatric symptoms, tics (or other abnormal movements) or eating restrictions could be due to these disorders. Many of these children are misdiagnosed because their symptoms mirror psychiatric or behavioral issues, or their symptoms are overlooked altogether.
It is imperative that nurses are able to recognize the temporal relationship of an infection and the onset of neuropsychiatric symptoms in order for them to be able to advocate for a thorough and appropriate medical evaluation. This recognition may lead to timely and sometimes life-saving treatments.
